The association between genetics, particularly the genes of the Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) and many autoimmune diseases has long been known even though the actual disease susceptibility genes or the mechanism that confers the disease often remain to be elucidated. Here we discuss a number of autoimmune and other inflammatory disease, reviewing the prevalence and epidemiology where known and assessing the value to genetic testing for these conditions.
